Ballan - WINTERKNITS 2020 July Newsletter
Greetings, The streetscape looks amazing, and almost complete. We know the traders appreciate the contributions, visitors to the town are evident, and in particular, children on school holidays are loving the displays. The Moorabool News have been very generous through articles, and promoting Winterknits 2020. In the current edition of the Moorabool News, we have taken out a full page promotion in the form of a quiz, where set questions identifying items on display can be answered via Carmel’s email. We will also display these questions and process for entering on posters around the streetscape. In doing this we hope to further promote the streetscape and continue to encourage locals and visitors to rug up and walk the street. Everyone’s work deserves to be enjoyed by many people of all ages. The work can stay on display in the lead up to Christmas, when decorations can be placed on works where appropriate. Wombat has a stash of decorations from past years that can be used. If you need to remove your work at any time, please just let Carmel know. We intend removing all work in the week following New Year for a fresh start to 2021. More info regarding this will be forthcoming later in year. The cold weather has really kicked in, we have passed the winter solstice and every day is just that tiny bit longer. Bring on the sunshine and Spring time. I notice a hint of blossom appearing in my street…lovely! May the second half of 2020 unfold well for us all.
Kind Regards, Lou and Carmel.

OUR DEAR SARAH....
Passed away 16th September 2019
Sarah Peckham made the world a better place. Our community is diminished by her death.
Sarah was an artist who drew and painted as easily as she breathed. She worked her magic in many mediums – wood, metal, wire, glass and stone. Sarah was a maker. She made objects that were useful, beautiful, and made from what was to hand. And as she was an artist, so she was a teacher. She found what to do, how to inspire, from the things around her. For Sarah’s students there were no errors, only opportunities to find creative solutions and make unique objects, ideas and experiences. Oh, that’s interesting was a frequent comment on a spill of paint across a page or a not quite right angle on the table.
Sarah’s moral compass pointed directly to respect and her social compass to inclusivity. Everyone was welcome at her workshops, at Magnet Dinners, at Wombat Arts Meetings. She wanted everyone to have the opportunity to experience creating, doing, making because she knew just how much fun it could be.
Sarah’s energy, drive, humour, and talents have been lost to us.
Some people really are irreplaceable.

- Mosaic memorial garden piece for Sarah
- Wombat storage container – still in progress
- Speakers and Workshops at Moorabool Reservoir – further details via email from our Secretary Kevin Healey as the year unfolds.
